Healthcare institutions are becoming more dependent on data to address their clinical, operational, and research needs as well as the growing regulatory requirements, but many do not have the database infrastructure or the quality reporting applications in place to effectively access and interpret high-value data when and how they need it.
Recombinant focuses on improving the flow of clinical data. Our solutions are oriented toward solving problems in data integration and analysis by closing the gap in accessibility for the people who need it most:
Clinicians who need reports that allow them to better manage chronic care patients, quickly and accurately identify patient populations for interventions, and keep track of pediatric vaccinations.
Hospital administrators who need more efficient ways to increase EHR adoption, create board-level reports, and benchmark pay-for-performance metrics
Researchers who need a secure, self-service system to streamline the cohort selection process, establish high-throughput mechanisms to collect genomic data, and support their efforts to stratify disease conditions and identify biomarkers for personalized medicine
By focusing on data first, we enable a wide range of solutions for both large and small institutions. Our approach is designed to be flexible so that our solutions can be built incrementally, allowing value to be realized at an accelerated rate while working toward a long-range vision. Ultimately, we see clinical operations and research as inextricably linked in solving the long-term challenges of our healthcare systems.
At the suite’s core is the Recombinant Data Trust, which integrates and cleanses data from multiple data sources to generate a high-quality, trusted analytical health repository. Recombinant Report Central uses data from the Data Trust to deliver actionable, evidence-based reports to providers about their patient populations. The Data Trust also powers Recombinant's translational research solution based on the NIH’s i2b2 open source technology. Recombinant’s single-source data solution fosters collaboration between clinicians and researchers, and distributes the infrastructure cost across key user communities.
Recombinant Data Trust
Are you concerned that your organization's data is not transparent enough for the Joint Commission accreditation requirements? Or that it does not sufficiently support your performance to satisfy Pay for Performance (P4P) improvement initiatives? Are you concerned that your institution is losing its competitive edge in research because of its inability to leverage IT investments to rapidly identify patient cohorts for grant funded research and clinical trials?
Recombinant has designed a healthcare data warehouse, the Recombinant Data Trust, to address these concerns and more.
The Recombinant Data Trust, designed to be incrementally deployed, simultaneously supports the needs of healthcare operations and clinical research, while complying with privacy and security requirements, by aggregating, cleansing, and centrally managing high-value clinical information. This information includes patient billing and claims data in addition to electronic health record (EHR) data and genomic information to provide longitudinal and timely views that address the increased demands for aggregate operations assessment, quality/performance analysis, as well as cohort identification and tissue banking for translational research.
The Data Trust includes a pre-defined data schema, data extraction utilities, and data quality tools focused on healthcare needs.

Analytical Reporting Applications
The analytical reporting applications that are powered by data from the Recombinant Data Trust – Recombinant Report Central and Recombinant's translational research solution – are designed to help providers better manage care and develop more effective patient treatment methods as well as to help researchers study diseases, genetics, medications, and behaviors.

Recombinant Report Central
While clean data is the key ingredient, relevant and timely reports are the recipe for success. Enhanced quality data analysis leads to improved patient care, superior results on Pay for Performance (P4P) and public reporting metrics, and improved clinical operations.
Recombinant Report Central is designed to help healthcare providers achieve better results by establishing reliable reporting metrics and an effective process for patient interventions, disease management, and clinical decision support. It is a proven reporting application that encompasses a report server, data security layer, and packaged reports based on a quality reporting model built for Partners HealthCare.
The report library includes packaged reports for chronic disease management, preventative medicine, medical specialties, in-patient/hospital care, operations, and ad-hoc queries.

Recombinant Translational Research Solution
While research plays a significant role in many hospitals and academic medical centers, limited IT resources often slow down the research process because of staffing and/or data constraints.
The Recombinant Translational Research solution, built around the NIH's i2b2 open source technology, provides an Institutional Review Board (IRB)-compliant environment for managing and analyzing clinical data for population-based research, genomic research, clinical trials, and the development of new interventions and technologies. It features a simple self-service cohort selection interface so researchers can generate hypotheses using de-identified data from a reliable data warehouse. In this way, research moves faster, is less costly, and is of higher quality. Recombinant also offers consulting services to resolve non-technical issues related to data sharing between clinicians and researchers and for multi-institution collaborations.
