Profiles Research Networking Software is a social networking and expertise mining tool. The open source technology is implemented by academic institutions seeking to facilitate collaboration among their researchers. The software was originally developed as part of Harvard Catalyst for the Harvard Clinical and Translational Science Center under the supervision of Griffin Weber, MD, PhD, Chief Technology Officer of Harvard Medical School and Assistant Professor of Medicine through the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, with a grant from the National Center for Research Resources and with support from Harvard University and its affiliated academic healthcare centers.

Pre-Populated Researcher Profiles
Data is integrated from existing public and private source systems, eliminating redundant administrative effort on behalf of end users.
 
Automatic Creation of Social Networks

Connections are formed when individuals share common traits such as co-authoring a publication, researching similar topics, being in the same department, or working in the same building.
 
Social Network Analysis

Multiple data visualization methods are available to

explore the networks of
both individuals and groups of researchers.
 
Business Intelligence
Administrators can analyze trends and gaps, as well as quantify and evaluate the value of its social network across the institution, department, and individual levels.

Recombinant was selected by Harvard Catalyst | The Harvard Clinical and Translational Science Center as an authorized support provider that offers setup, configuration, customization, documentation, and integration services, as well as annual support contracts to institutions using the software.
 
Open Source
Profiles Research Networking Software is freely available through an open source license, leveraging the benefit of enhancements and contributions from the open source community and lowering the cost.
